Soprano release to preview Wednesday 17th April 2024

We’re pleased to announce that the next release of Soprano is now available for preview. This release includes:

Ability to re-link an item record to another bib record

When viewing an item record in Soprano, you can now re-link it to a different bib record. In order to re-link an item you must have rights to edit item records, which requires the following enablement:

  • Circulation> Circulate item> Edit Circulate item

To re-link an item record, first find the 001 (or BIB ID) of the bib record the item is to be transferred to. Then, display the item record and click on the pencil beside the title details.

In the search box, enter the 001 of the bib record identified above, and then press Return or use the magnifier to complete the search.

The system will display the record that exactly matches the 001 entered.

Use the select button to complete the re-link of the item.

If the item record is at the status: Potential, Order pending, Order sent, Cancelled or Deleted, or it is directly linked to an ILL request, the pencil will be greyed out with a hover hint.

Changes to the admin console to prepare for Ad hoc notifications in Soprano

Over the next few weeks, we will be releasing new versions of the Admin console in preparation for allowing the configuration of Ad hoc notifications within ILL requests. These changes won’t impact anything already configured and can be ignored when using the Admin console while this work continues. When the changes to the Soprano interface are ready, they will be released in the usual way and we will explain how to set up and use Ad hoc notifications.

  • Copies in transit excluded from branches count in Recent activity and search result cards
  • Defaults on the create borrower screen

Copies in transit excluded from branches count in Recent activity and search result cards

In the bibliographic record ‘cards’ in Resources, if there are no copies of the item at the current site, a count of the number of other branches where copies are available is displayed. This count no longer includes items that are in transit. In addition if the login site copy is in transit, the system shows the count of other branches rather than the shelfmark of the intransit copy.

Defaults on the create borrower screen

Following the creation of a new borrower record, if the user doesn’t opt to reuse the borrower details and closes the ‘Borrower created’ message to return to the create borrower screen, the Date of Birth and Borrower Type fields now display the original, default values.

Soprano and a new release of the LDS 17th August 2023

We’re pleased to announce the availability of new functionality with LDS release 2.9.31. This version of the LDS enables the following:

  • Amending the borrower due date for an ILL request on receipt and renew

When receipting or renewing an ILL item, it is now possible to amend the number of days before the supplier due date that the borrower due date is set to.

For receipting, the borrower due date and collect by date will reflect the specified number of days before the supplier due date. When the item is actually issued to the borrower, the loan rules are applied.

The number of days can be edited in the same way for renewals.

When RENEW is clicked, the loan will be renewed to the specified number of days before the new supplier due date. The system does not take account of closed days or days specified as bank holidays when renewing in this way. To force these loan rules to be taken into account, renew the item in Home> Renew.

To obtain the LDS upgrade

Your current LDS version number is displayed in the footer of Soprano pages. To obtain the upgrade to LDS 2.9.31 mentioned above, please raise a support case through the customer support portal.

Soprano release to preview Wednesday 9th August 2023

We’re pleased to announce that the next release of Soprano is now available for preview. This release includes:

  • Choosing the contact point for ‘Digital / Email delivery’ and ‘Post to borrower’ ILL requests
  • Fix to the display of the product drop down when refunding in the Till

Choosing the contact point for ‘Digital / Email delivery’ and ‘Post to borrower’ ILL requests

Customers can use the BLDSS web connector to send requests to the British Library. They can ask for journal articles to be delivered directly to the requester by specifying the Delivery Type Email / Digital Delivery (an email containing a link to the article is sent to the requester) or Post to borrower (a copy of the article is posted to their address). When one of these two options are selected it is now possible for staff to choose an alternative contact point to the default selected by the system.

If the user has only one email or postal address, this is selected by default and it is not possible to amend it.

Once the request has been verified, staff can also now see the contact details on the Fulfilment tab. Note: if the email address or postal address used in the request is subsequently edited, the details and the request method will no longer display.

Fix to the display of the product drop down when refunding in the Till

In the Till it is possible to carry out refunds by searching for products, if this is enabled. The list of products that can be refunded now displays correctly.

Soprano release to preview Tuesday 13th June 2023

We’re pleased to announce that the next release of Soprano is now available for preview. This release includes:

  • Display of the ILL Total Limit when viewing ILL requests and on the Borrower> ILL tab
  • Optional addition of ILL renewals to the ILL Total Limit (LDS 2.9.29)
  • Two-step verification enhancements

Display of the ILL Total Limit when viewing ILL requests and on the Borrower> ILL tab

By default the Total Limit reflects the number of ILL requests created since the Total Limit Start Date set in Configure Alto. It is used to control how many ILL requests the borrower can create ‘this year’ so the Total Limit Start Date is often set to the start of the year, or the academic year.

When viewing an ILL request, the Total Limit is now displayed with the Active count below the borrower details.

The Total Limit now appears with the Active count when verifying an ILL request.

On the Borrower> ILL tab, the Active and Total Limit counts are now displayed beside the Filter Active ILLs toggles to make the display clearer. The ALL option shows all the ILL requests a page at a time, in descending create date order, regardless of when they were created.

Optional addition of ILL renewals to the total number of ILL requests count

A new parameter can now be set in the LDS configuration file to include the number of renewals carried out since the Total Limit Start Date in the Total Limit. Once this has been set the number of renewals is included wherever the Total Limit is displayed. By default, renewals are not included in the Total Limit. The total displayed in Prism> My account also reflects the setting of the parameter in the LDS. Please note that this feature requires LDS 2.9.29.

For information, by default Cancelled ILL requests created since the Total Limit Start Date are also included in the Total Limit. A parameter in the LDS configuration file can be used to exclude these from the count.

If you require one or both of these parameters to be set, please contact the Support team.

Two-step verification enhancements

Improved display name in the authentication app

Now when two-step verification is set up through the admin console, if the QR code is used to set up the ‘Authenticator’, the name of the entry will be similar to the following:

LMC Soprano Live: operator_login@tenancy_name

For example:

LMC Soprano Live: KS6@birmingham

Logging in using two step verification takes you to the Home page

Now after logging in using two-step verification, the user will be taken to the Home page rather than the borrower page.
